Virtual First Year Students Registration and Orientation

The Ministry of Education in consultation with Education stakeholders made a pronouncement on Thursday, 30th July 2020 that institutions of learning including universities shall reopen for face-to-face learning in January 2021.
However, the Ministry was categorical that universities should continue offering online learning and examinations but in adherence and observance to academic quality measures set by the Commission for University Education and in line with the health guidelines set by the Ministry of Health to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.
Following the pronouncement, the University Senate during its 57th meeting held on 1st September 2020
approved online registration, orientation, examinations, and virtual learning as the University prepare to reopen for face-to-face sessions in January 2021.
Therefore, in this regard, the University Senate wishes to inform all first-year students admitted during the
2020/2021 academic year that there shall only be online registration, orientation, and virtual learning.


Important dates

Registration – 7th September to 11th September, 2020
Orientation – 8th September to 13th September, 2020
Virtual learning – 14th September to 4th December, 2020
Online Examinations – 7th December to 18th December, 2020

Orientation matters

All the details regarding orientation shall be accessible through the University website ( Please
check for a link named registration on the website and click that link. You will then access brief messages from
the Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice chancellors, Registrars, and Deans/Directors.

Provision of documents

ALL first years are required to scan and email the following documents urgently to
Copy of the admission letter countersigned by the student
Copy of acceptance declaration form
Copy of either ID card or Birth certificate or notification of birth certificate (if under 18 years).
Copy of bank slip as evidence of full fees payment
Copy of KCSE/Diploma/Degree certificate ONLY for ALL self-sponsored students

Vice Chancellor’s matriculation speech

The Vice Chancellor’s matriculation speech shall take place on Friday, 11th September, 2020 at 2 P.M. This shall
be live broadcast through youtube link. The link for the address shall be on the University website from
Wednesday, 9th September, 2020. Ensure you attend the Vice Chancellor’s address by clicking that link on
Friday, 11th September, 2020 as already indicated.

Registration as a student

A google form has been posted on the University website for you to fill. Ensure you fill in all the details in the
form and send it back to the University. Upon the University receiving the form, a manual shall be sent to your
email which shall contain all the details on how to register for units and attend lectures.

Registration for units and lectures

As indicated in item E above, upon the University receiving your google form which has been filled, a manual shall
be sent to your email. The manual shall contain an explanation on how to access the student portal for unit
registration and the procedure for attending lectures.

Computer specifications

For you to successfully attend lectures and sit for online examinations, you are required to have a laptop or
desktop with relevant specifications. The University Senate has approved optimum and minimum computer
specifications as indicated below:
Processor: Minimum Intel Core i5
Hardisk: At least 500 GB
Memory (RAM): At least 4 GB
Operating System: Windows 8/8.1/10 Professional
Productivity Software: Ms Office a minimum of 2010.
Connectivity: Wireless Enabled
Processor: Minimum Intel Core 1.7Ghz, 4th generation
Hardisk: At least 500 GB
Memory (RAM): At least 4 GB
Operating System: Windows 8/8.1/10 Professional
Productivity Software: Ms Office a minimum of 2010.
