Whatever you study, our Career Services team offers a comprehensive skill-building programme that can help you develop your skills and put yourself in the best possible position for entering the jobs market. Preparing students for productive careers and lives of meaning and purpose during their academic life and post Graduation. Curriculum Vitae (CV) Writing

A curriculum vitae is a concise summary of your skills, achievements, and interests inside and outside your academic work. Most employers initially spend a very short time scanning your CV. So it must be engaging, conveying the most relevant points about you in a clear, accessible way. The primary challenge is to make it easy for the reader to find exactly what they are looking for. The career services team will guide you on packaging information succinctly, avoiding too much context, excessive detail or unfocused material that will dilute the impact of your most relevant messages

Cover Letters

A cover letter introduces and markets you effectively by complementing your CV. It tells your story by highlighting your relevant strengths and motivation for the person and organisation you are writing to, rather than listing all the things that can already be seen on your CV. You can use it to align yourself with the organisation’s strengths, values and culture, and highlight in a targeted way your knowledge and strongest, most relevant skills for the position. The Career services team will advise you on how to prepare a cover letter demonstrating how you fit the job criteria.

Psychometric Tests

Psychometric tests are now a common part of the assessment of job applicants. Psychometric tests are used to assess a number of attributes. Some evaluate your reasoning abilities and skills, whereas others look at your preferences and likely responses or judgements in different situations. The Career services team will advise you on how to prepare for the psychometric tests.

Careers Fairs

Careers fairs provide you with the chance to meet employers face-to-face, to learn about current vacancies and opportunities available, and to market yourself to prospective employers. Visit the Careers Services office to get more information on how to prepare for a careers fair and other useful tips.

JOB SEARCH TRAINING

26^TH MARCH 2019: The office organized training for the graduating class. Topics covered included how to write curriculum vitae, how to prepare for an interview and how to search for online jobs among others. The guest was Arg. Ida munano.

BENCHMARKING AT KENYATTA UNIVERSITY

On 11^TH June 2019, the office of career services was hosted by Kenyatta University and was taken through a benchmarking. The choice of Kenyatta University was the fact that its office of Career Services has been in operation since 2006.

A VISIT BY TECHNOLOGY PRIMARY SCHOOL

On 7^th October 2019, the neighbouring technology Primary school visited the University and was hosted and taken around to familiarize them with a University setting.

VISIT BY KANJIUDUTHI HIGH SCHOOL

On 4^th October 2019, Kanjiuduthi High School was hosted by office of career services Murang’a University of Technology for a motivational visit.

YALI INFORMATION SESSION WORKSHOP

On 15^th November 2019, the office hosted Yali officers (Young African Leaders Initiative) the East African Chapter. Students were trained and exposed to available opportunities under YALI. The officers exposed students on the existing American programs that are availed to students who have gone through the YALI program successfully.
