Directorate of Academic Quality Assurance

Welcome to the Directorate of Academic Quality Assurance at Murang’a University of Technology. Our mandate is to promote and safeguard high standards of academic quality across the University by ensuring that quality is embedded in all academic processes and practices.

The Directorate is committed to ensuring that our students receive a high-quality and responsive education that prepares them for an ever-changing world. Through systematic quality assurance processes, we monitor and evaluate academic programmes, teaching and learning, assessment, and other academic processes to support evidence-based improvement and foster a culture of continuous quality enhancement.

We work closely with schools, departments and other University units to continuously review and strengthen curricula, teaching and learning practices, assessment methods, and academic processes. We also consider feedback and recommendations arising from external evaluations and academic audits, working with relevant units to address identified areas for improvement and safeguard the quality and integrity of our academic programmes.

Quality assurance at Murang’a University of Technology is a shared institutional responsibility, not merely a compliance requirement. The Directorate therefore works closely with the Commission for University Education (CUE) to align the University’s academic programmes and processes with national standards and regulatory requirements, while facilitating capacity-building initiatives that strengthen institutional quality assurance practices.

To support continuous improvement, the Directorate leverages technology and data-driven approaches to collect and analyse feedback from course evaluations, exit surveys and other quality assurance activities. We also monitor key academic processes, including lecture take-off and examination administration. The evidence generated through these activities informs institutional decision-making, identifies emerging areas for improvement, and enhances the overall student learning experience.

The Directorate also supports the professional development of academic staff by identifying priority areas from quality assurance evidence and facilitating teaching-support and capacity-building initiatives. These programmes strengthen teaching effectiveness, encourage reflective practice, and promote continuous improvement in teaching and learning.

As higher education continues to evolve through technological, pedagogical and societal changes, the Directorate remains committed to nurturing an adaptive quality culture that enables Murang’a University of Technology to respond effectively to emerging opportunities and challenges while upholding academic excellence.

We sincerely appreciate the commitment and support of our management, governing organs, regulators, industry partners, students, staff,  alumni and other stakeholders in advancing academic quality at Murang’a University of Technology. Together, we make quality, innovation, accountability and continuous improvement integral to everything we do.
