Cybersecurity and ICT Policies Awareness

Cybersecurity and ICT Policies Awareness

In an increasingly digital academic environment, cybersecurity and compliance with ICT policies are vital for safeguarding the University’s information, systems, and community members. To promote a culture of digital responsibility, the University has established an online awareness platform that provides essential information, guidelines, and resources to help staff and students use technology safely and responsibly.

All members of the University community are reminded that cybersecurity begins with individual awareness and responsible online behavior. Key practices include using strong, unique passwords and changing them regularly; avoiding the sharing of login credentials; and ensuring that all devices—whether personal or institutional—are protected with updated antivirus software and secure configurations. Users should be cautious of unsolicited emails and suspicious links, as phishing and social engineering remain among the most common methods used by attackers to gain unauthorized access to systems or sensitive data.

Members are also encouraged to back up important data regularly, avoid using public Wi-Fi for accessing confidential information, and ensure that personal and institutional data are handled in accordance with the Data Protection and Privacy Policy. All devices connected to the University network should be used strictly for authorized purposes, and any suspicious activity, data breach, or system anomaly should be reported immediately to the ICT Directorate or through the official incident reporting channels.

The University’s ICT policies provide detailed guidance on acceptable use, data protection, cybersecurity standards, and digital ethics. Staff and students are strongly encouraged to familiarize themselves with these policies to understand their responsibilities when using University ICT systems and resources. The full set of ICT policies—including the ICT Policy, ICT Security Policy, Data Protection and Privacy Policy, and Acceptable Use Policy—can be accessed through the University Staff Portal under the “ICT Policies and Guidelines” section.

Through continuous awareness, vigilance, and adherence to established ICT policies, the University aims to maintain a secure, reliable, and trusted digital environment that supports learning, research, and innovation for all.
