Mariira Campus aspires to be a centre of excellence in ag- ricultural technologies and environmental sciences. It offers quali- ty education, cutting-edge research and practical solutions that address global agricultural and environmental chal- lenges. Mariira campus proudly hosts the School of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.
Over the last 3 years, the Campus has continued to strengthen its partnerships with key stakeholders who offer expe- riential learning opportunities for our students. Current partners are Murang’a County Government, Kenya Agricultur- al and Livestock Research Organisation (KARLO), Kenya Forestry Research Insti- tute (KEFRI) and Kenya Tea Development Authority (KTDA – Ikumbi Tea Factory).
Mariira’s international partners in- clude: International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Biodiversity and Bio- safety Association (BIBA) Kenya, The Al- liance of Biodiversity International and International Centre for Tropical Agri- culture (CIAT), The Global Open Data for Agriculture and Nutrition (GODAN), Participatory Ecological Land Use Management (PELUM) Association and the Institute for Culture and Ecology (ICE).
These partnerships help to harness Mariira’s ability to address academic and research areas such as agroecology and sustainable agriculture, climate smart agri- culture, soil science and land management, crop and livestock production system. Partners also help in tackling areas such as restoration of wetlands and degraded environment, agri-business and value chain development, biodiversity conserva- tion and ecosystem services, water resource management and green energy.
Our students can attest to the conducive teaching and learning environment at Mariira Campus. The campus boasts expansive demonstration farms for crops and livestock, field research plots and green houses. It also has a well-equipped e-learning and resource centre, as well as a farmer training and outreach centre.
