On 14th November, we marked the successful completion of a remarkable six-month journey of innovation, collaboration, and problem-solving. Representing Murang’a University of Technology , our teams participated in the 2025 edition of Inter-University AI Hackathon, held at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) . This event brought together some of the brightest young minds from about 30 universities across the country, all united by a shared passion for artificial intelligence and its transformative potential.
Throughout the competition, our students showcased not only technical expertise, but also creativity, teamwork, and a commitment to developing practical solutions to real-world problems. Their outstanding performance was evident as Murang’a University of technology excelled across multiple sub-themes, securing top positions and reaffirming the institution’s growing reputation as a hub for technological excellence and innovation.
In the AI for Business category, Team OPTIBIZ 360 emerged as the first-place winners. The team, comprising John Kagunda, SherylAnn Nyawira, John Maina, Calvin Chuma, and Caleb Muuo, impressed the judges with an innovative solution that demonstrated how AI can be leveraged to enhance business operations, decision-making, and overall efficiency.
Under the sub-theme AI for the 5th Industrial Revolution, Team Code Tarmac also secured a first-place victory. Made up of Steven Kariuki, Anthony Mwai, Joy Kimani, Nicholas Kariuki, and Joseph Kanyotu, the team presented a forward-looking AI-driven concept aligned with the rapidly evolving technological landscape shaping modern industry.
In the AI for Cybersecurity category, Team Aquinas achieved an admirable second-place position. Members Wayne Mwendwa, Regina Makena, Kevin Muli, Lorraine Rose Muthoni, and Maxwell Kuria demonstrated their understanding of emerging cyber threats and proposed AI-powered strategies for enhancing digital security.
These achievements reflect the dedication and talent of our students, and the support of the university. We are proud of all the teams for representing Murang’a University of Technology with excellence and for contributing impactful solutions to the Future.
