MUT Triumphs at NIRU AI Hackathon

Sharon Njeri, a third-year Information Technology student, has brought pride and recognition to the university through her outstanding achievement at the prestigious National Intelligence and Research University (NIRU) AI Hackathon. Demonstrating exceptional innovation, technical expertise, and problem-solving ability, Sharon emerged as the overall winner in the highly competitive “AI for Cybersecurity and Data Protection” track. Her success reflects not only her individual dedication and talent but also the university’s commitment to nurturing excellence in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.

At the heart of her achievement is her ground-breaking project, Sentinel AI, a real-time monitoring and threat intelligence platform specifically designed for power grid SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems. The project addresses a critical and contemporary challenge in modern infrastructure securing industrial control systems against increasingly sophisticated cyber threats. Sentinel AI leverages artificial intelligence to continuously monitor network activities within SCADA environments, enabling early detection of anomalies and potential security breaches. This positions Sentinel AI as a forward-thinking and sustainable solution in the ever-evolving landscape of cybersecurity.
